Road Crew에서 활동하던 베이시스트 Duff "Rose" Mckagan, Hollywood Rose에서 활동하던 보컬리스트 W. Axl Rose, 기타리스트 Izzy Stradlin, 드러머 Rob Gadner, 기타리스트 Tracii Guns가 의기투합하여 1985년 LA에서 결성되었다. 이후, 액슬과의 견해차로 트레이시 건즈와 롭 가드너가 탈퇴하게 되며 그 자리를 Slash와 Steven Adler가 맡게 된다. Guns N' Roses는 데뷔작 "Appetite For Destruction"과 EP 성향의 "GN'R Lies"를 내놓은 이후, 드러머를 Matt Sorum로 교체하고 키보디스트 Dizzy Reed를 맞이하여 "Use Your Illusion"을 1991년 9월에 공개한다. 레코딩 등의 프로덕션은 데뷔작보다 뛰어난 모습이지만, 역동적인 락 스피릿은 그에 못 미친다고 생각된다. 지극히 대중적인 음악이지만, 음악성 또한 움켜쥐고 있다.
