스트라이퍼는 1983년에 미국 Los Angeles에서 결성된 Christian/Glam Metal 밴드다. 보컬과 기타의 Michael Sweet와 친동생인 드러머 Robert Sweet를 주축으로 Roxx Regime 이란 밴드명으로 활동하다가 1984년에 Stryper로 개명하고 데뷔앨범을 발표한다. 세 번째 앨범인 본작 "To Hell With the Devil"은 두 번째 앨범으로 서서히 넓혀 나가기 시작한 밴드의 지명도를 급상승시키며 플래티넘을 기록하였는데, CCM 메탈의 교두보적인 존재로서 환상적인 완성도를 자랑한다. 밝고 경쾌하며 깨끗한 이미지의 멜로딕 사운드에 마이클의 소름 돋는 막강 보컬력과 격정적인 기타라인이 결합되어 최고라 할만한 음악이 탄생하였다. 국내에서 폭발적인 인기를 누리는 타이틀곡 "To Hell With The Devil", 개인적으로 무척이나 아끼는 "Free" 등 너무나도 아름답고 서정적인 멜로디로 앨범을 도배해 놓았다.
