주술적이고 유니크한 개성과 카리스마를 지닌 Ozzy Osbourne이 "Never Say Die" 앨범을 끝으로 Black Sabbath를 탈퇴함으로써 위기에 처했던 Black Sabbath가 완벽하게 부활에 성공할 수 있도록 만들어준 작품이다. 보컬 실력만으로 본다면 비교할 수 없을 만큼 월등하다고 생각되는 Ronnie James Dio를 영입하여 앨범을 완성하였으며, 결과적으로 80년대 헤비메탈의 방향성을 제시한 걸작 앨범으로서 후대에 막대한 영향을 끼친 명반으로 남게 되었다. 웅장한 분위기를 가진 곡으로 고전으로 자리잡은 타이틀곡 "Heaven and Hell" 등을 수록하고 있다.

디오의 보컬은 또 다른 블랙사바스를 들려주었지만, 역시 블랙사바스하면 오지다, 지나치게 파워풀한 디오의 보컬은 내가 사랑하던 블랙사바스 특유의 분위기를 가차없이 삭감하였다,
