Progressive Gothic Metal의 발전과정에서 중추적인 역할을 수행한 앨범이다. 영국 출신 Anathema 의 네 번째 작품 The Silent Enigma으로 대부분의 곡들이 대곡을 지향하고 있으며 중후하고 서사적인 음악을 들려준다. 오케스트럴 편곡으로 중세적인 클레시컬함도 지니고 있는데 곡의 진행에서 느껴지는 드라마틱한 감동은 상당한 수준이다. 앨범이미지에서 느낄 수 있는 아름답고 깊은 여운을 간직하고 있으며 지극히 허무하고 처절한 음반으로 눈시울을 붉힐 만하다.
